editor’s note: I found myself so stuck in a rut this summer when it came to meal planning, I knew I had to make a serious change when school started this fall.  Keeping up with two young boys and trying to grow my own business often left me too overwhelmed to think about ‘whats for dinner’, but I knew I needed to do better.  I come from a family of amazing cooks (I keep waiting for the gene to kick in), and I know and value the importance of family dinners.  So in hope of getting reinspired and schooled on how to meal plan like a pro, I enlisted the help of a local friend and expert, Marcia Smart.  Marcia is a cooking instructor, recipe developer, food writer and the founder of Smart in the Kitchen. Through this guide, and the recipes on her website, she wants to help you make good, simple meals for your family and friends. Marcia is originally from California and she now resides in Houston with her husband and three children.

Meal planning isn’t just a good idea, it’s a life saver around here. Our house includes two working parents and three kids with busy homework loads and sports schedules. Sunday afternoons are typically spent looking at the week ahead and mapping out schedules with military precision.

What I strive to teach in my cooking classes is that getting dinner on the table can be easy. In my classes, the students tend to be over-committed, stressed, over-worked women wearing about a million hats at a time. Sound familiar? Dinner doesn’t need to be complicated or over wrought. With a little planning on the weekend (you can spare 20 minutes for the sake of your sanity, right?) you can write a meal plan and shop once for the week ahead.

MODERN TRADITIONAL DINING ROOM1599

My apologies for the Home Tour hiatus, but we have all the images now and we are back on track for our Friday Home Tour series!  Yay!  We are going through the house room by room starting with the entry which we shared here.  So the next natural progression is into the dining room!  (Watch our home tour video here to get a better perspective on the layout.)  I LOVE this room.  The goal when designing this space was to have a formal dinning room for entertaining, but to also have a warm room that wasn’t too stuffy for everyday family dinners, and I think we achieved just that!

We’re thrilled to launch our newest monthly series, Talk Shop, with a woman who is the definition of #girlboss. Amber Venz Box, the Co-Founder of rewardStyle and LIKEtoKNOW.it, has created two platforms that have not only shifted our behavior as consumers but have also disrupted an entire industry. Her idea that brewed in a coffee shop and grew in a tiny apartment has exploded into a multi-national business with 240 employees across eight offices around the world.

In 2011 Amber, who had just started her blog VENZEDITS.com, and her boyfriend at the time (now husband) Baxter Box, co-founded RewardStyle to provide a way for bloggers to monetize their shopping referrals, similar to personal stylists. Fast forward to today, and rewardStyle has 20,000 content creators monetizing their influence and 4,000 global retailers marketing directly to this generation’s social media shopper. Just last month, new data was released that rewardStyle is the dominant source of mobile referral traffic for some of the most successful retail brands in the world. Not to mention, LIKEtoKNOW.it, the platform she co-founded in 2014 that this year alone will be responsible for $300 million in purchases by consumers from LIKEtoKNOW.it influencers.

We were, of course, super excited to speak with Amber about her inspiring success story and to get her thoughts on the future of influencer marketing. Read ahead for the full scoop and prepare to be blown away.
