The last stop on our apartment tour is Knox’s nursery.  His nursery theme is ‘vintage aeronautical’ because we think it’s cute, but also because my father is a commercial airline pilot and my grandfather flew in World War II. The airplanes on the wall above Knox’s glider were in my father and brother’s nurseries.

I don’t want to have to redesign the room in a few years when Knox gets older so I stuck with primary colors and patterns that weren’t too young for an easy transition to a toddler and little boy’s room.

The classic ticking stripe crib bedding plays well with the other patterns in the room and the dark navy doesn’t show spots (which I learned quickly is a good thing).  My sister found the custom fly pillow for me from A Grace Unlimited.

wire storage baskets

I loved these baskets from Restoration Hardware, but I couldn’t bring myself to pay that much for storage baskets!  So, I found these on One King’s Lane and I bought some paint & stencils on amazon.  I plan to DIY “toys”, “books” and “laundry” to these baskets for the same look as the RH ones I love!

I almost didn’t get a glider because I didn’t think there was room in the nursery, but I am so glad I did! Honestly, this is where you spend most of your time so make sure to pick out a comfortable one! And, be sure to order well in advance. This glider took 6 weeks to get here and Knox arrived 6 weeks early so I was nursing on the couch in the beginning and it wasn’t as convenient or comfortable for late night feedings.

I opted for a leather pouf instead of the matching ottoman. The dark leather adds contrast to the light linen fabric and it’s a more functional size for our tiny space. Now that Knox is bigger, it also makes for a fun little play seat for him to pull up on and to sit on.

This custom pillow is such a cute baby gift!  I love having all his stats displayed to always remember.

Our friends found so many adorable airplane accessories for our showers. I am amazed by how much cute stuff is out there for our nursery theme.

The twin bed in the nursery allows the room to double as a guest bedroom.  There is a trundle-bed under it, as well, so we can sleep two guest comfortably.

We had to take down the bottom row of pictures for now because Knox was too interested in them during diaper changes.  My sweet college friends ordered the captain sign for our baby shower and I loved it so much I tied it to this floor lamp.  Our apartment doesn’t have any overhead lights so I have to put lamps wherever they will fit!

Happy first weekend of summer! I gathered up some goodies from around the web…

  • Have you seen Grace’s collection for BaubleBar?!  It is so her!  I especially love this ring she sent me!
  • This is so spot on about friendships in your 30’s.  I am so blessed to have my girls in my life.  Love you all and wish we were together more, but love that when we are it is so special!
  • It was love at first sight with this clutch.  I think I need to pull the trigger in time for the holiday weekend!
  • This is genius.  Every mom (and everyone) should watch this.  Just saved myself some serious prep time.
  • I am obviously late to the party, but have you seen this Instagram account?  I mean this kid is just too cute!
  • Loving this summer gingham Milly dress on Julia!
  • Nothing says summer like an Adirondack Chair and they are on sale at World Market!
  • Changing the meaning of “Like a Girl
  • Looks I love, too!  They always get it so right.  Plus, 40% off swim (just in time for the 4th!) with code: SPLASH

The day after a holiday weekend is always a little sad for me. We had such a wonderful time as a family in Sea Girt, New Jersey! It was Knox’s first trip to the beach and he did so good. We set up a beach mat under an umbrella with some toys and he played and watched all the people + he was mesmerized with the ocean.

If you live in the city and are ever looking for a nice beach that is a quick car ride away, I highly recommend driving (about 1.5 hours) to Sea Girt. The beaches are clean and family friendly and The Parker House is a great spot for lunch or dinner. The seafood by the pound served outside is my favorite option, but dining at the restaurant is great, as well (and easier with a baby). (It does turn into a hot spot in the evening so go early if you are looking for a family friendly scene.)

How cute are these baby Crocs?! There are so many adorable options for little boys (and girls too!) that I had to get the ones that are still too big for Knox for some of our friends! (boat shoes // clogs // flip-flops)

BABY BEACH BAG

I found this patriotic ball when picking up a few things at Old Navy, and I knew it would be a hit at the beach!

^^^This one is my favorite. Every baby needs a monogram robe, am I right?! ha ha ^^^

Last Friday after work, I met up with Lynzy of Sparkling Footsteps for a little happy hour and photo op.  Lynzy is just as sweet and authentic in person as she is on her blog so we immediately hit it off.  As you can see, we were both sporting a casual Friday look.  I had just come from the office and Lynzy was meeting her sweet BF at Grand Central (I say sweet because he was kind enough to snap these photos for us!).

BTW, if you have been coveting a gingham button down, but don’t want to pay the J. Crew price, Lynzy got this cute shirt in the Target boy’s section for a steal!  Genius, right?  If you didn’t love her already, I am sure you will be checking out her blog now! 🙂
