You may notice things look a bit different around here. We launched a cleaner look for HOUSE of HARPER yesterday. (My sincere apologies if you stopped by when the site was down, but I hope it was worth it!) My favorite part is the new menu bar at the top of the site. You no longer need to scroll back to the top to get where you want to go next… Oh, and the category list complete with recent post images! If you notice anything not working properly, please let me know so we can quickly work to smooth out all the kinks for you.
And without further adieu, a perfect summer look. If you see me at an upcoming baby shower, brunch date, date night or just simply running around town, I will likely be in this dress. It was like it was made for me. And for this bike.

We just returned from another weekend trip to Texas (Houston this time) and it made me realize how important weekends at home have become. Having those few days with a helping hand at home (FMK) is crucial for me to have a productive week. I will be playing catch up today getting unpacked, grocery shopping, doing some laundry and cleaning up the apartment – our usual weekend chores.

I am excited to finally photograph and share the boys’ bedroom with you all. This room was previously just Knox’s room, but about 6 months ago, they boys started begging to spend the night together so we would pull out Knox’s trundle bed for Andrew to sleep on. Once we realized this was more than just a phase, I decided to order an actual bed and officially make it ‘their’ room.
Keep reading to see the full room and for all the details and links to everything I bought for the space.

While sometimes I can’t pass up a particular trend (like all the fun fall handbags), at the end of the day what I really want are wardrobe essentials that I can wear on repeat and that never go out of style. Each season I curate a mini capsule collection with staple items that can be mixed and matched with on trend pieces and accessories. My magic formula for a fall capsule wardrobe revolves around 2 bottoms, 2 tops, 1 dress, 2 outerwear layers, 2 pairs of shoes, and an accessory. For details on those 10 pieces, as well as a few favorite shopping finds from around the web, read on below!

One of the most common questions asked to working moms, one that I often get asked and also ask others, is how to find balance between work and home life. Let me start by saying that I don’t think any working mom or woman in general ever feels like she is doing a good job creating a ‘balance’ in life. It is certainly an ongoing process that has taken trial and error and is ever evolving around the most immediate needs that surround you. But what I’ve realized is most important in achieving a ‘sense of balance’ is to be fully present wherever I am, whether that’s home with the our family or at the office. This separation is of course easier said than done, but I’ve established a handful habits that are super helpful. Below, I’m sharing my routine and tips with you that will hopefully provide some guidance for achieving your own version of balance sanity, whatever that looks like. I truly believe that it looks different for everyone, but that we can all learn from each other!

When it comes to my weekly outfit rotation, denim usually makes an appearance more than once. Whether I’m running around with the boys, working at the office, or heading to dinner with friends, I feel confident – and like myself – when I am wearing a pair of great-fitting jeans.
This time of year I always feel inspired to find a new, on-trend pair that I can wear throughout the fall season. I’m a firm believer that there is a denim style for every occasion, and today I’m talking about 5 pairs to have on hand in your closet. Read on below for my five favorite denim styles and styling tips!

3. The Best Floral Spots In New York This Spring: I always miss living in NYC this time of year. The first two years we were in the city (Fred was in business school at Columbia), we lived a block from Central Park in the UWS. The trees are all budding, the tulips cover the grounds and it’s the perfect spring weather! Pre kids, we would stroll the park and a book and get lost in the park for hours. Carly’s post gave me major nostalgia! I think it’s time to book a trip…

Happy 4th of July weekend, guys! Caroline and her crew are headed to the Knapp cabin and my family and I are packing up for a weekend road trip (follow along here)! I’ll be shopping all the major weekend sales along the way so I am sharing what’s on my hit list, plus, all the best deals around the web!
Summer has only just begun, and luckily for us, a ton of summer styles just went on major sale! I’m thrilled to get my hands on this dress, especially after seeing it on Caroline at her summer entertaining party. And how can I pass up these dainty hoop earrings for $10? I’ve never owned large hoop earrings and I’m excited to try these before I splurge on the real deal.
Almost every retailer is having a Fourth of July sale, but we listed the very best below. Happy Shopping!

I’m heading to LA at the end of this week (follow along here), and I’ve been searching high and low for the perfect outfit. I think I found it thanks to Julia! She shared this (under $40!) gingham dress, and I knew it would be perfect for running around sunny California.
I’ve been following textile-designer Lulie Wallace for awhile, and this week I finally ordered some of her fabric! It won’t be arriving until late-summer, so in the meantime, I’m enjoying her Anthropologie collection. Her serveware is adorable for summer!
A new dessert shop has landed in Houston! Dolce Neve just opened a gelato shop in The Heights, and I can’t wait to try it out. Hopefully, we’ll be adding this to our Houston City Guide soon.
I’m a (mostly) happy commuter! I sometimes can be stuck in traffic for up to an hour, so I’m very thankful podcasts exist. I’m always up for new suggestions, and I was happy Brides delivered with their list of 7 Relationship Advice Podcasts! The one I’m most excited to listen to is Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People.
Garden & Gun is giving you all the reasons to love the Gulf Coast. I wast thrilled to read this post, as I hear so much negative from locals about the Gulf. I think it’s time for a road trip up the coast!
I’ve got my summer reading list ready thanks to Glitter Guide. First up, Into The Water by Paula Hawkins. Paula is the author behind the best-selling book (and now movie) Girl on the Train.

I had the pleasure of hosting a charity luncheon in my home town last week and as the emcee, I spoke about how to build a timeless wardrobe and we demonstrated with a fun style show. This is a philosophy I personally live by and it has become a popular topic among the fashion world. You also often hear of a version of this referred to as ‘The French Wardrobe’ because the French women are pros at pulling off that effortless chic style. Read on, I promise this wardrobe will save you time (getting ready every day) and money (no more wasted money on too many trendy items you will only get a few wears out of)!

Working from home, sometimes I miss getting up every morning and getting dressed for work. I look forward to coffee dates and meetings that give me an excuse to step it up a notch. These black pants are a favorite closet staple for those occasions and a gingham crop top is perfect for layering over a high-waisted pant.

I met Morgan Hutchinson of Shop Buru almost two years ago at NYFW. I immediately fell in love with her cheerful spirit and entrepreneurial attitude so when she asked me to do a feature last year, I jumped at the chance to style 3 outfits from her website + shoot with Lindsey Bell! We had so much fun together, we decided to team up again so I met her at their Sam & Lavi market appointment to pick out a favorite look to share with you!
I loved this look for one obvious reason: the gingham print, but the girly flowy top and midi skirt are so flattering and on trend. You can also see how Morgan styled this look in her Glitter Guide feature!
If you aren’t familiar with Shop Buru, it is an online shopping destination with a carefully edited assortment of all your favorite designers’ latest and greatest that also happen to be new ‘mom friendly’. We are talking elastic waist, button down tops + loose fitting tops (like this one) that make nursing or just feeling comfortable with your new body easy! Genius, right?!
P.S. If you are in Houston, today is Shop Buru’s first stop on their ‘Buru To You‘ moving tour! You can shop their moving sale this week

As we are slowly getting settled in our new home (we moved in 3.5 months ago), we are carefully selecting products that can simplify our life while still providing an elegant aesthetic to our home.
I love music. I prefer to have something playing in the background whether Knox and I are playing with his toys, I am working at my desk or lounging in the back yard. And, of course, when we are entertaining guest. When selecting my perfect player, I had three qualities on my wish list. It was important to me to find a speaker that had a high quality sound + a high quality look. And, I also needed something that was portable so I can easily take it with us to the back yard or to the lake house.
At least, I thought that was my only criteria. After discovering the Aether Cone, I now know that I wanted so much more.
I first fell in love with the well-designed, simple build. I knew it would look beautiful displayed on a shelf or more prominently on a stack of coffee table books. But when I learned about the ‘whole product approach’, I knew it was for me. The Cone’s intuitive dial and voice command free’s you from needing a screen or an app to control the device. If you want to hear Taylor Swift (guilty!), you simply press the center button and ask out loud “play Taylor Swift”. Or, if you prefer to listen to the news (or a specific radio station), you can request that, too. 😉
More favorite features…
Multi-room: You can sync multiple cones to enjoy the same music throughout your home – or play a variety of sounds simultaneously for different listeners. It is easily adjusted to suit your current needs.
Turn dial: If you would like it to play something similar to what is currently streaming, turn the dial a little. If you would like to listen to something completely different from what you are listening to, give the dial a big spin for a totally different selection.
App: Lastly, if you’re curious about what Cone is playing, you can find out in the Aether app.

“Floral may be tried and true, but House of Harper’s Caroline Knapp says gingham is the true hallmark spring plaid. Knapp, who recently relocated from New York City to Houston, still finds herself incorporating New York corporate style into her wardrobe. With gingham, she suggests pairing darker gingham patterns with either more gingham or a neutral colored top. Avoid red gingham to avoid resembling a picnic table.”
