Tour the living room of Caroline of House of Harper

I am excited to share our formal living room, just off our entry. This is a fun room to share since it is mostly all our furniture from our old house with new accents to make it feel fresh!

For perspective, this is a view of our living room from our entry.

The room is split into two sitting areas. These windows face the front of our home.

Believe it or not, this sofa and coffee table have actually been with us since our NYC apartment days! The chairs were both recovered for our previous home, and I still love them both today! I worked with Jennifer Barron Interiors to give the sofa a mini facelift with new pillows that are more traditional and flow better with this home. (You can see all the furniture in our previous home here for reference.)

I needed new end tables in this room that felt more formal to help dress everything up since we are using this room as our ‘formal living’. We moved our old end tables into the new ‘den’ and I found the drop leaf table at a local furniture resale shop (similar here) and the pie crust table top on One King’s Lane (similar here). I also found these little blue check antique ottomans at a local furniture resale shop (Upper Kirby Consignment). They had just been recovered and fit perfectly in our home. You will notice I move them around between this room and the den because they both work interchangeably in each space, but I think I have landed on the blue ones in this room and the tiger print in the den, at least for now. 😉

The obvious show stoppers in this room that make the biggest statement and change from our previous home are the gorgeous green lamps and statement art work, if you ask me. ;). I love the pop of green from the lamps that pull in the green from the art and pillows.

This custom painting was a gift from the talented Alexis Walter. We became Instagram friends and I met her in person when she was in Houston for an art show at Paloma. She is so kind and generous and created this special piece for us. We taped off the size on the wall behind the sofa and sent her all the fabric selections for the room and she used the colors in the house to create the most perfect piece of art. I still notice new details when I look at it, and I can’t believe it is actually in our home!

The pictures were taken on different days so you will notice I moved some styling pieces around. Which ottomans are your favorite in here?

For fun, here is a reminder of the space when we purchased the house. Adding the paneling on the walls added such a beautiful and formal element to this room. It is the little details like this that make a home feel special and unique.
