Harper Hill Country Tour of the Master Suite

To continue our #HarperHillCountry reveal series, we are stepping into the master bedroom a.k.a. Sugar and Cappy’s room. 😉 If you are just catching up, I helped design this home for my parents as their second home in the Texas Hill Country. It is a place where our whole family can meet to getaway and let the kids enjoy the beautiful setting and quality time with each other.

The challenge with a rustic hill country home is to keep it looking like it was built today, but without making it look too clean and modern for a ranch house. For this reason, we decided to go with the white marble countertops (Aria Stone Gallery, Marble Slab) and subway tile, but keep the hardware dark and the mirrors a rustic wood. The concrete floors are continued throughout the entire home and are so easy to maintain and clean! All the windows give the bathroom wonderful natural light and my parents love having their own his and her vanities. Since this is a relaxing getaway for them, it was important they got a large soaking bath and shower to treat themselves at the end of the day.

The entire bedroom was furnished second hand from a friend who was getting rid of their bedroom set. As I mentioned in previous post, my parents started working on the house a few years before building began so they had collected several pieces of furniture that were being kept in storage until the house was ready. This room is one of the rooms they had completely furnished so all we needed to do was purchase the bedding and lamps. I sourced all the bedding from HomeGoods with neutral quilts and shams and then added the rustic accent pillows from Pottery Barn for a colorful finishing touch.

There is also a cute little sitting area with two chairs, a dresser and a TV at the foot of the bed, but when I got home with all my pictures I realized I didn’t get any good photographs of that angle of the room. (You can see a little of the sitting area in the shot looking into the bathroom from the bed.) I think having your own sitting area is so nice in a master bedroom! If you are hosting guest, but need some personal time in your pjs in the morning or evening it gives you the personal space to watch the morning news or wind down in the evening.
