Before moving to New York last summer I had lived in Texas my whole life. When my Dad speaks about what’s “in season”, he isn’t talking about fashion, but hunting seasons.

Between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, it is our family tradition to spend time at our ranch in the Texas Hill Country. We don’t have internet access and we only get cell service on the highest point on the hill. This makes for a relaxing week of quality time with family. We wake up at sunrise to watch the deer come to the feeders, play a friendly game of Texas Hold’em at night and eat s’mores for dessert.

This year, the weather was a beautiful 60 degrees and sunny during the day so all I needed to stay warm was my reversible fur Gap vest that I bring out every year.  The vest reads “ranch” to me and paired over my plaid J. Crew blouse, I feel fashionable yet appropriate for a week away from it all.

What is your favorite city escape?  Would you embrace three days without your cell phone and internet or would it send you over the edge?
