I took full advantage of the warmer weather that swept into New York the past few days and went out bare-legged & sporting my new paisley skirt (on sale at J.Crew, use code for extra 30%).

I have made a conscious effort over the last year to opt for separates over dresses to give my wardrobe more possibilities to mix and match. (If you could see the size of my tiny closet, you would understand.) Since changing my shopping philosophy, my wardrobe feels fresh without having to go shopping. I can re-wear the same skirt with a different blouse, layer on a blazer & tights or pair with a chunky sweater. Before making your next purchase, ask yourself to think of three different ways to wear the item. If you can’t think of more than one, think again before you bring it home.

What is your secret to keep your wardrobe fresh and your spending down?
