ASOS Statement Elastic Peplum Maxi Dress_7

When sweet Lyndsey invited FMK and I to a formal event last month, I knew I would have to go dress shopping.  But, the more I got to thinking about spending a fortune on a new gown, the more I couldn’t bring myself to do it.  Why spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on a dress I will likely only wear once?  I prefer to put the money toward something for the house or even a handbag that I could (theoretically) get my money back in cost per wear.

My next thought was to Rent The Runway, but I needed a back up in the instance the dress I ordered would need altering – which is always likely since I am short (5’3) and have an unproportionately small chest (yay for me). 😉

As I was browsing ASOS for summer dresses, this gown caught my eye…

I never would have thought to turn to ASOS for evening wear, but since I had already had success with this cocktail dress, I decided it was worth a shot.  You can imagine my delight when the gown arrived two days before our event fitting perfectly and looking so much more expensive than the $118 I spent on it.  (No, I didn’t forget a digit.)  I wore my hair up the night of the event to show off the pretty back, but I was afraid I couldn’t recreate it for this post. So, what do you think?  Can you believe it’s ASOS?  I still can’t believe it cost less than some cover-ups I own!  That’s my idea of a memorable night!
