My day to day schedule is usually jam-packed from the minute I get woken up by Andrew (our early riser). I start my mornings by getting myself and the boys ready, followed by taking them to school or leaving them to play with our babysitter, devoting a solid 5 hours to work, picking the boys up and spending quality time with them and FMK until it’s lights out. If I’m being completely honest, this tight schedule doesn’t always leave time for me to wash, blow dry, and style my hair. I’ve been exploring products and methods for going longer in between washes, and when I heard about the new detoxing Pantene Charcoal Collection, I was excited to try it out. Side note, you may have seen my recent post about activated charcoal and how it’s the new beauty and wellness trend that everyone is talking about, so needless to say – they had me at ‘charcoal’!

I decided to round up my favorite beauty tricks and products that are helping me go longer in between washes, because I know many of you are on similar crazy busy schedules! Read on below for my full list of tips.

Opt for a Boar-Bristle Brush

Before washing my hair, I make sure to first brush my dry hair with a boar-bristle brush which helps move natural oils from the scalp down through the length of my hair. This beauty trick removes built up oil away from your scalp making it easier for shampoo to cleanse away the remaining oils while also nourishing the ends of your hair.

Use a Detoxing Shampoo

As I’m sure many of you can relate to, on days when I don’t wash my hair I put my dry shampoo and curling wand to work and do my best to hide this little secret. What I didn’t realize is that when your hair goes without a wash, styling products and grime start building up and can cause your hair to gain four percent of its own weight (gross, right?!). So now on days when I don’t wash my hair, I make sure to use especially detoxing products, which is where the new Pantene Charcoal Shampoo and Conditioner come into play.

The Pantene Charcoal Collection Shampoo and Conditioner contain a Pro-V blend of activated Charcoal plus pro-vitamin B5 and antioxidants for a nutrient-rich formula that really cleanses without toxins like silicone, parabens, and dyes. What is amazing about activated charcoal is that it purifies by absorbing impurities, like magnetic attraction. People take activated charcoal pills to bind up all of the toxins in their digestive system that cause bloating and gas and move them right along (lovely). So it makes sense that the same benefits would apply to hair care as well. With activated charcoal (the magic ingredient), this shampoo and conditioner literally detox your hair and release antioxidants and leave your hair super refreshed and clean. What I love most about this new collection is not only does my hair look renewed and healthy after I use it, my hair stays shiny and fresh for days.

Train Your Hair

Over-washing your hair can actually create even more oil, so not washing your hair as often is actually a great way break the cycle of oily roots. I try to not wash my hair more than four times a week to stay on a regular schedule and avoid a lot of unnecessary beauty routine time!

Don’t Skimp on Styling

When I know it’s going to be a few days before I wash my hair again, I make sure to really put the effort into styling it after a thorough detox wash. Taking the time to blow dry and curl my hair on the days I do wash it keeps my hair looking shiny, healthy and clean on the days in between washes. I start by blow drying all of my hair, which dries pretty straight, and then I take my hair curling wand and create loose waves. If I have an event or meeting in between washes, I can do a 5 minute touch up with my curling iron and run out the door — much more efficient than a full wash, dry, and style!

Go Hands-Free!

I’m totally guilty of playing with my hair during the day — when I talk, while I’m on my computer, you name it! Not to mention I have two little ones who are always crawling on me and playing with my hair. So it can be challenging to keep my hair hands-free, but I am making a conscious effort to stop touching my hair in between washes to avoid even more oil build up!

Take Your Vitamins

It’s probably no surprise that what you put in your body affects your hair health. Vitamin B is great for your hair growth and health, and regulates the amount of oil your scalp produces (also known as sebum). You can take a daily supplement and/or eat Vitamin-B rich foods like natural yogurt, salmon, almonds, and eggs.
