This time of year as summer is winding down and the start of school is on the horizon, I always find myself looking forward to shopping for fall styles, even though I realistically can’t wear cozy layers in Houston until well into October (if even then!). After Labor Day, the season of “transitional dressing” will be in full swing. My favorite way to ease into the fall is to wear dresses that are lightweight but not overly summery — like solid colored shirtdresses and darker floral prints. I rounded up my favorite transitional dresses that can be worn just as easily now as in September and October. I love pairing these styles with chic flats or sneakers and then gradually swapping those shoes out for booties when it gets just cold enough. A denim jacket thrown over your shoulders or tied at the waist is a great way to master the layered look with a dress (when it’s still too warm to layer). And then eventually – in Houston, most likely December – many of these styles are perfect for styling over black tights with booties and a chic coat. I’m getting excited for cooler weather just thinking about it! xo
