When it comes to styling outfits, Fall is the season we get most excited about. Unfortunately Houston doesn’t have a true fall — more like an extended, milder summer — but that doesn’t keep us from embracing our favorite fall trends!

Instead of looking ridiculous in a sweater when it’s 90 degrees, we like getting creative about ways to transition our favorite pieces to be fall-appropriate. Read on below for 6 easy ways to start incorporating fall trends before the temperatures drop!

Say Yes to the Dress

We’re thrilled that dresses are in for fall, especially floral and patterned ones! We recently posted about our favorite transitional dresses here. We’re taking all of the dresses we’ve been wearing this summer and giving them a fall upgrade with chic mules and booties. Even though it’s not quite cool enough outside, the A/C already has us layering dresses with light jackets. Our number one tip: don’t be afraid of color for fall! Hot pinks, orange and other bold colors are in style this season.

Blazers Are Your Best Friend

From double breasted to plaid and from bold hues to traditional solid colors, blazers are in for fall! Mix and match traditional work blazers in your closet with unexpected pieces in your closet like white tees and denim, or with a midi skirt and blouse for a statement evening look. If you’re wanting to try out a trendy, bold blazer, try an inexpensive brand like Mango, H&M, or Zara for a budget-friendly statement piece. Shopbop has an amazing assortment of blazers as well — our tip to finding the most budget-friendly option is to sort items from low to high pricing. 😉

When in Doubt, Wear Denim

Sometimes denim can feel like a last resort when you can’t figure out what to wear BUT the great news is, it’s IN for fall. You can confidently throw on your jeans, yet again, and be confident that you are in style. If you’re wanting to invest in a new pair, we recently wrote about our favorite denim styles for every occasion

Play with Accessories

One statement accessory can take a whole look from one season to the next. This fall, statement mini bags are the hot trend. Carry one with any of your regular looks for an instant seasonal upgrade. There are plenty of budget friendly options out there if you don’t already have one. Our pro tip is to hunt through your grandmother or mother’s old pieces, or a vintage shop, to see if they have an old one you can revive. 😉

Swap Your Shoes

If you’re feeling uninspired by your current wardrobe, try changing your look with one key swap — your shoes. That go-to denim + top outfit you’ve been wearing day after day will feel completely different with mules or booties instead of sandals or flats. We’re also fans of updating our wardrobe each season with a new pair of statement shoes that will guarantee a handful of “new” looks from our existing wardrobe, and we are so excited to grab a new pair of boots for fall!

Fall Fabrics

Even if it isn’t cool enough where you live for sweaters and coats yet (dreaming of the day!), you can still give your look a fall effect with fabrics like suede or corduroy in small doses. The trick is to keep your other fabrics light and keep your legs bare!
