One of my favorite things about living in Houston is the local creative community. Fashion and art aren’t always the first subjects that come to mind when envisioning Houston, but there are so many talented designers and business owners based here.
When I first met Paul and Chloe Hotze, the couple behind Paris Texas Apparel Co., I was immediately drawn in by their Southern hospitality and beautiful products. I had heard about the brand when it was a website-only retail destination for Texas-themed silk neckties and bowties. When they opened a storefront around the corner from my house in 2016 I was excited to have a new go-to shop for home goods, gifts, luggage, you name it!
My favorite products at Paris Texas Apparel Co. are their San Cristobal Guayaberas — a special line of guayabera shirts that can be seen at every fiesta-themed get together and football tailgate in Texas. I can’t believe it is almost back to school time for us! Our boys start school the week of August 20th so I am busy getting backpacks monogrammed, a few new clothes and fun lunch boxes to get them excited for the new year ahead! My family still makes fun of me for how excited I would get for this time of year. I could literally spend hours in the school supply isle and then would come home and get my binders all organized. My kids aren’t in the full school supply age yet, but something tells me they may not get the same satisfaction from a clean notebook as I did?! ha!
These are a few of my favorites for boys cloths. Two things to definitely note, these are the BEST boy shorts! It’s a new company based in Houston and they are the perfect length and I love the material. Any time the boys have them on I get so many questions and compliments about them! Secondly, my boys have only worn these jeans since the beginning. They are the best fit and the softest stretchable fabric! I usually get a light and dark wash to get us through the fall. Lastly, I am keeping my boys in velcro shoes as long as I can. I love the little New Balance for Drew and the only style I can find that isn’t laces in Knox’s size are these Nikes (so he has had them in every size!) I personally love grey shoes because they go with everything, but we have done a lot of blues / navys, as well.

Our garden party took place in a gorgeous home by Marie Flanigan Interiors. Mostess styled the tabletop and bar cart with beautiful flower arrangements by Maxit Flower Design, whimsical calligraphy menus by Meg Grant & Co, and incredible hors d’oeuvres by Smart in the Kitchen.

I can’t believe it is officially swim suit season, but it always comes without fail whether I am ready or not. (And let’s be serious, I will never be ready.) We spent last night at our favorite pool for their Friday night live music, dinner and swimming! The boys were in heaven and it is a favorite past time of ours, as well. So summer is officially in full swing in Houston, even if we do have a few weeks left of school. I think my two-piece days are long gone, but I love that there are so many cute one-piece options now. 1. The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy Keller: Tim Keller is the head pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church where we were members in NYC and where Knox was baptised. If you haven’t read any of his books, I highly recommend them. He is an extremely theological preacher that can speak to anyone, no matter where they are in their faith journey.

We are excited to continue our Mom Crush series with our dear friend and neighbor, Hunter Bell. Hunter and I met through a mutual friend when we were both living in New York City. Our friend was a hedge fund CFO and she literally said, “You are my only two friends that work in fashion, I feel like y’all should meet.” So we got set up on a girl blind date and the rest is history so they say. 😉 I remember having brunch at Cafe Cluney a few years later with Hunter and her precious mom during NYFW in 2014. I broke the news to Hunter that we were moving to Houston and she responded in the most unexpected way. “Don’t tell anyone yet, but we are too!” Now, we live one street from one another with five kids between the two of us. (You should see the comedy that is us trying to enjoy a meal together now!) Hunters bright spirit and faith-filled perspective on life make her a wonderful friend and mother.

I lucked out (to say the least) when the talented calligrapher, Meg Grant, moved in across the street. She elevated our entertaining series with beautiful and unique personalized details since we started working together last summer. Caroline and I were talking about upcoming summer plans last week, and of course, we both have weddings to attend! We thought this would be an excellent opportunity to create a round-up of wedding guest dresses.
If you’re heading to a beach or garden wedding this summer, keep the dress light and loose! That advice sounds pretty obvious but a couple summer’s ago, I wore a strapless fitted dress to a garden wedding, and it was the-worst-decision. This dress is the perfect option, and it’s 40% off! We also shared some bridesmaid options. Last time I was a bridesmaid, the bride let us pick our own dress in a particular shade. I chose a similar version of this convertible dress, and I’ve worn it since to a more formal event.

We get a lot of reader request around here requesting more ‘mom style’ and since Caroline and I are both moms, we thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite stylish pieces that are perfect for mom duty and beyond.
You’ll notice I featured two hats and a hair tie. After all, it is Houston and it is officially summer. Amiright? Also, I want to quickly point out that the striped jumpsuit is super forgiving of the tummy area! And, really cute. Win-win! I also love when styles can be easily dressed up or down with a simple accessory swap and this would also be adorable for a summer dinner date with a pair of heels! I’m obsessed with Outdoor Voices! I preach to all my friends about how amaazing the leggings are. They feature textured compression fabric, which creates a super slimming look. For a mom who’s still hanging on to a little baby weight, I feel so confident in OV. I’m eying just about everything from their new Mirage Collection.
My favorite outfit of the week goes to Blair! Her Reformation dress would be perfect for Fourth of July. They also make other equally amazing striped options, like this and this.
I remember when I bought my first Essie nail polish and thinking how ridiculous $8 was for nail polish. I “splurged” on Ballet Slippers by Essie because I loved how subtle it was. I haven’t worn the baby pink shade in years, but I plan to pick up a bottle after reading an article on Southern Living that the shade is the Queen’s signature nail polish!
“Sometimes no plans are the best plans.” After a busy few weeks, we are excited about staying in and watching a movie on the couch. I was excited to find this list of Father-minded movies. The list has some great suggestions!
