As you’ve probably realized by now, I’m all about finding efficient and effective beauty routine solutions. Because of the efficiency part, I was a bit hesitant to jump into the double cleansing trend because washing my face twice didn’t seem like the best use of time. As someone who wears make up most days though, especially when I have a photoshoot or event, I was curious about the science behind double cleansing and how it could more effectively clear my pores. Read on below to learn about double cleansing and my experience!

For those of you who might not be familiar with double cleansing, it’s a Korean beauty method that ensures you are removing all of the oil-based impurities on your face (like SPF and makeup). The reasoning behind double cleansing is that a regular water-based cleanser does not fully remove impurities from your make up, or the environmental pollutants and oil that your skin produces naturally (sebum). The build up of these oils and pollutants cause acne and dull looking skin.

By starting your evening cleansing process with an oil-based cleanser or cleansing balm, you remove all of your makeup and grime from the day first and then lather on your regular cleanser to really cleanse your pores and gently exfoliate. This idea really resonated with me because of the many times I’ve washed my face only to find make up on my towel after drying my face (or I’ve been left with raccoon eyes after a single wash). I decided to give double cleansing a try, and I feel like it really does leave my face feeling more clean and refreshed and most importantly it keeps my pores clear and less visible.
