Read MoreOne of the most amazing parts about living in Houston – and something that was a pleasant surprise to me when we moved here – is the incredible community of talented women. I met designer Elaine Turner shortly after moving to Houston and I was immediately struck by how warm, inviting and fun she is. Her playful-yet-sophisticated fashion brand is a direct reflection of her personality. Elaine started her company in 2000 with a line of handbags and has since grown her company to include jewelry, apparel and shoes, a beautiful e-commerce site, and three brick and mortar shops. This past month she launched her first book titled Breaking the Glass Slipper which explores various challenges we face as women, and encourages women to let go of fears and pursue their dreams. We were excited to sit down with Elaine to talk about her book release and about the growth and future of her fashion line. Read on below for the full scoop!

Read MoreIt feels fitting that we are publishing Kelly LeVeque‘s Mom Crush on the day of our health & wellness Open House panel in Houston. I’ve absolutely loved following Kelly and her delicious “Fab Four” recipes on Instagram, and recently devoured her book Body Love. Kelly is a holistic nutritionist and celebrity health coach based in L.A., and her client roster includes Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, and Emmy Rossum (to name a few!).
Before her current career as a nutrition consultant, Kelly worked in the medical field and in personalized medicine offering tumor gene mapping and molecular subtyping to oncologists — so clearly, she’s incredibly smart! Her nutrition guidance is all science-based and her anti-diet approach to eating is super refreshing.
On top of her amazing career, Kelly is also very kind and down-to-earth and she recently became a mother to her sweet baby son Sebastian. We were thrilled to chat with her about her background, nutrition advice, how to control hunger hormones, her favorite Fab Four smoothie recipe, and her new role as mom. Read on below!

Read MoreWe had an unexpected cool front when I headed to Austin for South x Southwest and my suitcase full of dresses and open toe shoes weren’t going to cut it. So, I made a quick stop into the closest retailer on my way to Create & Cultivate and picked up this cream sweater that is perfect for transitioning to spring. In fact, I’ve already styled it two ways, check back this afternoon for the second way to wear it!

Maybe it is because all the major milestones I was counting down for (hitting a double-digit age, getting a driver’s license, graduating high school, turning 18, turning 21, you get the idea) were slowing things down and since they’re all behind me now, time flies by at an alarming pace! (I mean how is it already April?!) I am sitting here trying to figure out how it is possible that I started this blog 5 years ago while FMK and I were vacationing in St. Lucia (more on that below).
If you do anything consistently for five years, the odds are you are going to learn a few things here and there. Well, needless to say, I have learned so much on this crazy journey we call blogging so I thought it would be fun to share a few of them with you. For fun, let’s take a look back at how this all got started and I’ll share my Top 5 Things I Have Learned. Then, I want to thank you for helping me achieve my Top 5 Biggest Accomplishments. And last, I want to share the Top 5 Post from each year. Sound fun? Let’s do this!

Read MoreIt’s no secrete that I love stripes for day, but how fun are they in a pretty midi dress?! I love the playful vibe they create for this otherwise dressy silhouette. I wore this outfit earlier this month to the speaker’s cocktail party and dinner before Create & Cultivate Dallas. The night before I left, I had panicked because I didn’t have anything to wear. So I took advantage of being friends with Hunter and went and raided the stock at her house after we had the babies down. Of course, I found something perfect that I can’t wait to carry into spring!

Read MoreLast weekend Drew and I headed to Dallas for Create & Cultivate. My family lives south of Dallas so we picked up my mom on our way to help me with the baby while I was busy with the conference + events. We stayed at the W Hotel and had a fun speaker cocktail hour and dinner Friday night (I will be sharing that outfit soon) and the conference on Saturday. I wore this outfit to speak on ‘The Art of the Pitch’ panel with The Bag Snob, Tomboy KC, and Factory PR (moderated by Lily from DBA). I wanted to look stylish, but still professional so I scooped up this long sleeve sheath dress (at Monkees Houston) and kept my accessories classic and simple. This is such a versatile dress that I look forward to styling with an edgy leather jacket and black booties for Valentine’s Day and into the spring with a colorful statement necklace and sandals.
It was so amazing to meet and be inspired by women with similar passions at Create & Cultivate. If you didn’t get a chance to attend, I hope you will consider joining me at The Southern C this April in Charleston!
